How to Care for Custom Cabinetry So It Lasts Decades
Simple maintenance habits that keep doors aligned and finishes intact

Bespoke cabinetry is built to last, but a few small habits decide whether it looks new in year ten or tired in year three.
01Daily and weekly
Wipe spills immediately, especially at door edges and around the sink. Use a soft cloth with warm water and a drop of mild detergent — never abrasive cream cleaners or anything containing ammonia on sprayed or wrapped doors.
02Twice a year
Check and adjust hinges, tighten handle screws, clean runner tracks, and re-seal natural stone if the water no longer beads. This half-hour ritual prevents almost every long-term alignment complaint.
- Adjust hinge screws for door alignment
- Vacuum runner tracks
- Reseal granite or marble tops
- Check silicone at the sink and splashback
03Heat and steam
Never let a kettle or steam oven vent directly onto a cabinet front. Fit a heat deflector or plan the appliance position so steam escapes into open air.
The takeaway
Twenty minutes of maintenance twice a year keeps custom cabinetry performing like it did on installation day.
